Sandeep,

I will try to explain how SAP fetches data from Archival File.

Whenever we write data in flat file two things are stored by SAP in table.

1) Archival File Key

2) Offset for data required

Refer table ARIX_BKPF and ADMI_doc to get understanding of what I am trying to convey.

For example

In One session I create 200 files for FI documents.

Now  I try to find one document number display data.

SAP first fetched Archival File key for this document and in that file uses Offset to locate your record in file (its just like X, Y coordinate )

Regarding File size dont increase it by more than 100 MB, else you can loose data while file movement on another storage media. This might be faced by you as I read in lot many forums and personally experienced as well.

Hope this explains .

.
